Parent, Restaurant Brands International (RBI), is reportedly close to selling a controlling stake in its China arm. It\u2019s been reported that Sequoia Capital China \u2013 which was also <a href=\"https:\/\/daoinsights.com\/news\/starbucks-china-sale-reported-to-be-entering-its-final-stages\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">said to be eyeing large stakes of Starbucks\u2019 China business<\/a> \u2013 and CPE Capital are circling the sale after about eight months of talks.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Why the sale? <strong>February\u2019s buyout wasn\u2019t a long-term bet, it was a reset. <\/strong>Burger King China had been underperforming under its previous joint venture with TFI Asia and Cartesian Capital. By acquiring their shares for about $150 million, RBI regained full control so it could stabilise the business, close weak stores, and refresh its strategy before bringing in a stronger local partner. The average Burger King restaurant in China generates <a href=\"https:\/\/www.qsrmagazine.com\/growth\/finance\/rbi-takes-control-of-burger-king-china-business-for-158-million-in-cash\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">around $400,000 in annual sales<\/a>, according to industry estimates \u2013 a fraction of what outlets in mature Western markets bring in. RBI\u2019s latest results also noted the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rbi.com\/English\/news\/news-details\/2025\/Restaurant-Brands-International-Inc--Reports-Third-Quarter-2025-Results\/default.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">absence of about $10 million in revenue from its China business<\/a> compared with last year, reflecting the impact of restructuring even as operations begin to steady.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So what does the Burger King sale mean for China-based burger lovers? <strong>If Sequoia or CPE takes the crown, Burger King China could finally gain the capital and autonomy it needs to grow on home turf.<\/strong> It\u2019ll still have a long way to go if it wants to secure the same market share as its competitors, but you\u2019ll still be able to get a Whopper in the Middle Kingdom.\u00a0<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Burger King in China is up for sale.
